Woodrow Wilson High School, Washington, DC

Products Installed: Absorbor™ Panel GFX™ - graphically printed fabric.

The joint venture team of GCS-SIGAL, LLC completed the $85-million, design-build project to modernize the historic Tenleytown landmark. The current main academic building has been transformed by a dynamic, new central "Crossroads Courtyard" atrium space, acoustically controlled as well as visually enhanced by RPG's Absorbor™ GFX graphic print acoustical system. The printed graphic patterns and positions of the 130 unique Absorber™ Panels are precisely calculated to align with the shadows cast by the arching structural supports of the glass canopy ceiling and other architectural elements at the solstices and equinoxes.

Commonwealth Medical College, Scranton, PA

Products Installed: FlutterFree®, Black Walnut, stained and lacquered.

The Commonwealth Medical Education College is the first Allopathic College of Medicine to open in Pennsylvania in approximately 60 years. The new facility serves more than 500 students with 175 full-time equivalent faculty members, plus support personnel. Highland Associates designed the project in collaboration with HOK. The 4-story 119,000 square foot East Wing includes a 250 seat auditorium and two 190 seat lecture halls, where FlutterFree® was utilized to both enhance the natural acoustics of the spaces and promote cross communication in the learning environment.

Ellis Marsalis Center for Music, New Orleans

Products Installed: Waveform™ Spline - GRG, onsite paint application.

Richard H. Talaske, Talaske Group | Sound Thinking, acoustical consultant on the project indicated "Jazz in New Orleans is a mix of acoustic and amplified music. At the new Ellis Marsalis Center for Music, the hall needed to accommodate both, with only limited adjustable acoustics capability. We felt that sound diffusing finishes on strategic surfaces was the right design approach. For our past projects, RPG's undulating product designs offered effective diffusion with excellent timbre of sound. Hence, we specified RPG again for Ellis."

Julian F Keith Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center

Products Installed: Absorbor™ Panel, fabric wrapped.
BAD™ Panel, fabric wrapped.
TopAkustik Panels, Beech melamine.

This project, designed by Alexander Design Studio, was created to address an acoustical issue at a nurses station in this facility. The treatment consisted of Absorber Panels and BAD Panels along the upper areas of the soffits and TopAkustik panels and planks in the remaining wall areas. The sitting room utilized the TopAkustik planks, while the reception desk area utilizes the TopAkustik panels. All TopAkustik is provided in Beech melamine and is trimmed out with Type 1 trim provided by RPG. The end user and designer were happy with the overall noise reduction that the absorptive materials provided to the space to help correct their acoustical problems.

Recording engineer Ann Mincieli has recently opened Jungle City Studios, designed by the Walters Storyk Design Group, Highland, NY. The sleek new studio, with state-of-the-art acoustics and vintage recording equipment, sits atop a Chelsea loft building, steps from the High Line and at the heart of the city's art scent. Clients include Alicia Keys, who is building a mirror image studio adjacent to Jungle City, as well as Beyonce, Bono and other high profile clients. RPG is proud to have been specified to provide the sound isolation as well as the interior acoustical treatment. Due to the fact that the studio was not on grade, thick concrete floors could not be used. Therefore, to provide the highest isolation RPG provided its DPM/DPS roll our floor isolation system for the studio and control room utilizing special resilient isolators capable of being used with lightweight floors. The system also features the innovative DPS strip, not found in any other roll out system, to handle the different perimeter loads when the walls and ceiling are resting on the floating floor, insuring uniform deflection. The system was so effective no measurable noise interference was reported in adjacent spaces.

To provide a view of the city and uniform acoustical diffusion, WSDG specified a custom, clear, acrylic Modviewsor on the rear wall of the control room.

RPG's furniture finish wooden Expo, the flat diffuser with exposed binary amplitude pattern on the left wall when seated at the console, provides mid-low absorption, as well as high frequency diffusion.

In the studio, WSDG specified RPG's Topperfo Micro absorptive wood panels which consist of 30,000holes/f2. This product was integrated into acoustical elements seen as angled panels next to the piano. Topperfo Micro is unique in the industry in that the holes are created after the finish is applied insuring an open surface. The image shows the perforated veneer face and the larger rear holes with the black non-woven mat. In addition, RPG provided angled resonant absorbers, seen as angled boxes on the ceiling, providing scattering and low frequency absorption.
