CIM

Cleveland Institute of Music, Cleveland, OH

As part of the Recording Technology Curriculum, the acoustics of an individual music pratice room were analyzed. These rooms are typically hard and reflective and do not contribute positively to the musical education of a student.

Tom Knab, Director of the the Recording Technology Program at CIM, indicated that “An analysis of the room indicated that the loudness was too extreme, the room was poor for intonation and articulation studies, and the modal response was poor. We added Skyline diffusors to the ceiling to improve the general diffusion in the room and DiffusorBlox to one wall. The DiffusorBlox dramatically controlled the modal response, making the room less boomy and more pleasant to rehearse in. The DiffusorBlox also controlled strong specular reflections for a natural sense of ambiance. Davie Cerone, president of CIM, indicated that the acoustics of the practice room have been greatly improved and students tend to select the treated room when they have the opportunity.”
