The Chapel/Auditorium was designed to allow many types of uses covering the full spectrum of audio performance requirements. The rear wall area was of major concern as a high degree of sound energy would impact along this surface. A combination of absorption and diffusion was required to meet the proper functionally and acoustical performance. As CMU materials were used throughout the facility, DiffusorBlox® was the only material that met all criteria regarding acoustical performance, budget, and aesthetics.

Indiana Wesleyan UniversityThe Phillippe Performing Arts Center on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University was designed as a multipurpose facility to accommodate the University's nationally recognized choral and instrumental programs as well as a growing theatrical program. In addition, it is used for chapel services on a regular basis and plays host to the local Philharmonic program. The theater has been recognized as having "ideal acoustics". The goal was to achieve the flexibility necessary to accommodate these varying program needs while architecturally integrating the acoustical needs. Shaping and modeling of the side and back walls enhances the space acoustically as well as adding interest and character. The incorporation of Diffusorblox® with splitface masonry units on the back wall was an important element to achieve the appropriate balance for maximum acoustical quality. In addition to diffusing and absorbing sound energy, the Diffusorblox® provide an attractive, low maintenance material that integrates beautifully into the architecture of the facility.
