RPG Celebrates Silver Jubilee
As part of our Silver Jubilee, we are making several milestone announcements regarding additional ways RPG can service the international architectural
acoustics community, so stay tuned.
September was a busy travel month visiting current and potential international partners and the International Congress on Acoustics 2007 in sunny Madrid.
The Room and Building Acoustics section included many interesting sessions including Acoustics and sustainable building; Classroom acoustics; Computational methods for room acoustics;
Microperforated materials; New materials and systems in building acoustics and Reflections, scattering and diffraction in room acoustics.
Many attendees continued on to the International Symposium on room acoustics in Sevilla. The Prado in Madrid and Toledo were popular cultural side trips.
Did You Know? Here, There and Everywhere
We would like to announce the appointment of Trident Gulf FZE as our Middle East representative. Managing Director Mr. Chris Oliver has been active in the Middle East, since 1975, and offers professional
service and experience. The photo is of Zayed University, for which RPG developed a custom Waveform Spline ceiling system.
While on the international front, following a recent visit with Mr. Stephen Leung, Managing Director of Architectural Acoustics International Limited (AA), we are proud to introduce
AA as RPG's representative in China. With offices in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing, AA is poised to introduce RPG technology to the Chinese market. RPG and AA will also
collaborate On acoustics research and measurement methodology in their research laboratory in Jiangmen.
Completed Projects
The new National Audio-Visual Conservation Center(NAVCC) of the Library of Congress is the first centralized facility in America specifically planned and designed for the acquisition,
cataloging, storage and preservation of the nation’s heritage collections of moving images and recorded sounds. The NAVCC was built on a forty-five acre campus near Culpeper, Virginia.
It is the largest facility of its kind, a state-of-the-art center incorporating new capabilities that are unprecedented within the global audio-visual preservation community. RPG products were
specified by Shen Milsom & Wilke.
Pending Projects
The Newseum is a bigger, more dramatic, higher-tech reinvention of of the former Newseum in Arlington, VA. More than six years in the making, it may be
one of the world’s most expensive museums now under construction. It is certainly among the most prominent, perched on the last buildable site on the presidential inaugural parade route between the Capitol
and the White House. Polshek Partnership Architects designed the museum, Ralph Appelbaum Associates created its exhibits and Steve Haas of SH! Acoustics, LLC was the acoustician.
The Dallas Museum of Art is located within the Dallas Arts District, the largest urban cultural district in the country. Unfortunately, the Museum's Horchow Auditorium has been plagued with
poor acoustics since its opening. The space had an acceptable reverberation time for its size, but lacked speech intelligibility, warmth and presence. Michael Kerr, WJHW Acoustics,
proposed custom Bad Expo Woodgrain panels to retain as much acoustic energy in the room as possible to support acoustic music, while also improving speech intelligibility and
listening conditions for cinema. The Museum board and Gluckman Mayner Architects were pleased with the monolithic side wall (shown) as opposed to a highly irregular surface
normally required for diffusion or sound redirection.
