RPG DIFFUSOR SYSTEMS: News: DiffuseNews Archives: September 1998RPG

This year RPG® is celebrating it’s 15th anniversary. Over the past 15 years, our products, markets, research, and manufacturing facilities have changed dramatically, but our mission to provide the world’s most innovative AcousticTools® through a strong committment to basic research has remained the same.

In 1983, we introduced the first commercial reflection phase grating (RPG) sound diffusor to the recording industry. This new acoustical ingredient was quickly embraced and the word ‘diffusor’ became a commonly used term in the recording industry. Diffusors are now seen in almost every recording studio. RPG® became the acoustical cornerstone of landmark facilities for Peter Gabriel, Whitney Houston, Reba McEntire, The Hit Factory, Sony Music, Bob Ludwig’s Gateway Mastering, and many others.

The success of these projects allowed us to expand into the broadcast industry. All of the major networks, including NBC, CBS, BBC, CBC, and NPR, incorporated RPG® products into their facilities.

We then set a new standard in listening rooms and home theater with several products designed to meet the acoustical needs of residential spaces. Cello Music and Film Systems recently appointed RPG® Diffusor Systems as a strategic partner in their mission to provide the world’s finest home theater systems. We are proud of our 15 year collaboration with Cello and are pleased to be their primary acoustical products vendor.

Our relationship with the classical record labels, especially Telarc International, opened the doors to performance facilities. Quickly, RPG® products were specified in Carnegie Hall, The Meyerhoff Symphony Hall (Baltimore Symphony Orchestra), Frits Philips Muziekcentrum, and a host of other prominent performing arts facilities.

Music education was next to embrace RPG® technology with facilities for the Manhattan School of Music, Juilliard, and Cleveland Institute of Music, to name a few.

To address the diverse needs of all of these markets, RPG® organizes its products into three markets: Project Studio, Home Theater, and Architectural Acoustics.

The Project Studio products are sold through Pro Audio dealers. These affordably priced products utilize cutting edge RPG® acoustic technology specific to the needs of engineers and musicians. The most recent product developed is ProFoam™, the next generation of acoustic foam which overcomes all of the limitations of conventional sculptured foam while introducing new features never seen before, including attractive aesthetics and nestability.

Many of the industry’s leading home theater designers are incorporating RPG® designs and products into ultra high end facilities. We are continually developing new products like the upholstered BAD™ panel that is heard and not seen. RPG® will soon announce an extensive new line of innovative home theater products. Stay tuned to this web site for further details. To learn more about home theater acoustics, we suggest you visit the CEDIA web site and hear what everyone is saying about RPG®. The RPG® Home Theater products are sold through a select network of dealers and system integrators.

Every now and then a quantum leap occurs in an industry. RPG®’s CHAOS program is just such an introduction. CHAOS allows us to acoustically optimize any shape that a design team visualizes. The heart of CHAOS is RPG®’s proprietary Shape Optimizer software, which couples multi-dimensional optimization techniques with boundary element methods. These optimized surfaces join our ever expanding range of standard modular products to provide the most extensive product offering in the industry. These general architectural acoustics products are sold through an international network of RPG® distributors.

To keep our specifiers and clients constantly updated, we have created an in-house communications department focused on efficient information transfer and Web design. The department created our Web site and continues to update it daily for a dynamic information exchange. Plans for the site include an interactive RPG® University, CSI and architectural specifications, and VR images.

Our experience over the past 15 years has provided us with the knowledge to set even higher standards for the next millenium.

Dr. Peter D’Antonio
