Audio Engineering Society (AES) Review
Exhibits
RPG®'s exhibit booth attracted many interested attendees. The most popular exhibited item was RPG®'s new digital
acoustics BAD Panel and the
Room Optimizer software. While the Room Optimizer did not win a TEC Award, we
were pleased to be nominated. Dr. D'Antonio also offered several presentations on the Room Optimizer,
CATT Acoustics and
also RPG®'s proprietary Shape Optimizer.
Standards
The AES SC-04-02 Standards meeting was well attended and the working group finalized the last details before sending the
AES-4ID-xxxx to the Secretariat and then posted on the reflector site for comments. Dr. Trevor Cox, Vice-Chair and Dr. Peter D'Antonio,
Chairman are very excited to see this document reach the final stages after many, many years of hard work.
Papers Session
Trevor Cox presented a paper entitled "Optimized Planar and Curved Diffsorbors by Trevor Cox, University of Salford, Salford, UK and
Peter D'Antonio, RPG Diffusor Systems Inc., Upper Marboro, MD, USA.
Innovative Acoustics Workshop
This was a very informative and fun session. Chairman Troy Jensen, Altel Systems, Brewster, NY, USA chaired a group consisting of Dr. Peter D'Antonio,
RPG Diffusor Systems, Upper Marlboro, MD, USA; John Storyk, The Walter-Storyk Design Group, New York, NY, USA; Neil Grant,
Harris-Grant Associates, Ivers, Buck, UK; and Bob Hodas, Acoustic Analysis, Berkeley, CA. This sequel to an immensely popular workshop
two years ago was a major success. Dr. Peter D'Antonio led by describing the evolution of RPG®'s digital acoustic surfaces which were
elaborated on by Neil Grant's facilities at Cinerama, Peter Gabriel and Sony M1. John Storyk described innovation in approaching real
world problems in real spaces and Bob Hodas illustrated innovative measurement techniques to fully characterize and optimize recording
spaces.

Mix Magazine TEC Awards Results
The TEC Award ceremony was great fun. There was good food, good humor, and well deserved awards. Congratulations to Russ Berger
and the RBDG for continuing their tradition in receiving recognition for Studio Design. The 16th floor Mix party was also great fun.
Diffuse Seminars
RPG® is now offering regular educational seminars for acousticians, sound contractors, home theater system integrators,
architects, and other specifying consultants to apprise the industry of our research, new products, application assistance, and an
introduction to RPG®'s new Room Optimizer, Shape Optimizer, and CATT Acoustics software. The press is also welcome.
The response to these educational seminars has been overwhelming. The October seminar is completely filled. The November seminar
will be held November 18-19, 1999. If you are interested in attending, please e-mail to info@rpginc.com, contact your local rep, or call
RPG at 301-249-0044. There will be a holiday break in December and we will resume in Y2K.
