BAD™ Panel

Overview The BAD™ Panel is the ultimate synergy of advanced acoustical technology and simplicity of design for when performance is paramount but budgets are modest. Using an optimal binary pattern of perforations through a Class A fire rated rigid template, the BAD™ Panel achieves an excellent balance of sound absorption across the NRC frequency bands while preserving the ambiance of the space. In all, this unique surface eliminates excessive high frequency absorption, transitions to a scattering surface in the very high frequencies, prevents lobing inherent in common perforated surfaces and significantly improves mid and low frequency absorption.

Finish The BAD™ Panel can be wrapped in any of several panel fabrics offered in the industry that have appropriate acoustical attributes. RPG's SoundGem™ acoustical panel fabrics come in a broad color palate of (92) unique and dynamic colors. See some of the options displayed under the Finishes tab below.

Installation BAD™ Panels can be easily and quickly hung on any wall surface using RPG's Impalit™ clip. For ceiling applications, the panels can be either direct mounted with Z-bar attachments or suspended using a cloud anchor kit. Panels can also be configured to install in a standard T-bar grid. See details below under the Drawings tab.

BAD™ Panel
Well balanced acoustical design contains an appropriate combination of absorption, reflection, and diffusion. In many applications, however, limited budget or available surface depth can preclude the use of sound diffusion products. If too much absorption is used, especially products that are efficient at absorbing sound in the high frequencies such as foam and fiberglass, it can lead to an acoustically "dead" environment without "air" or ambiance.

To solve this problem, RPG® developed its BAD™ technology to provide a decorative panel solution that achieves balance between sound absorption and reflection. By inserting an optimally perforated, 3/16" fire rated template between the fiberglass and the fabric during production, RPG has successfully created a surface that eliminates excessive high frequency absorption, prevents lobing inherent in common perforated surfaces and significantly improves mid and low frequency absorption.

RPG BAD™ Panels consist of a binary amplitude template attached to a porous absorbing core, typically a rigid fiberglass board with appropriate density for optimum performance, covered with a fabric of choice. RPG's SoundGem™ acoustical panel fabric comes in (92) colors; in addition there are hundreds of industry standard and custom fabrics to choose from. Panel edges are hardened and can be molded in a variety of profiles. RPG has developed a simple and reliable method of attachment which offers fixed or removable installation utilizing an impaling clip for walls, Z-bar for ceilings and embedding anchors for suspending in a ceiling cloud configuration.

Problem
Traditional foam and fabric wrapped absorptive panels offer a cost effective, low profile approach to providing reflection and reverberation control. However, these panels offer too much high frequency absorption and large area application may lead to an acoustically "dead" space.

Solution
RPG® developed a decorative and innovative variable impedance panel by fabric wrapping an optimal binary template consisting of reflective areas and holes over a semi rigid fiberglass panel. As with all its products, RPG offers complete, quality assured custom panel fabrication that provides a simple and reliable fixed or removable mounting.
