The new Mastering Suite at Battery Studios in the heart of New York
City is the latest addition to Zomba Recording Corporation's fleet
of studios. The facility was designed by Neil Grant of Harris Grant
Associates, UK and incorporates RPG®'s newest DigiWave
technology integrated with the rear wall Diffractal®. Mastering
Engineer, Chaz Harper couldn't be happier, stating that "the sound
is very even and natural, no matter where you stand in the room".
Online for barely five months, the facility has already amassed credits
from groups such as The Backstreet Boys, Groove Armada, Akinyele,
Too $hort, and Commissioned, as well as several movie and TV show
soundtracks.
The room is a technological tour-de-force, with equipment by Sonic
Solutions, dCS, Focusrite, Sontec and Weiss Engineering feeding a
custom-built Manley Mastering Console. Monitoring is provided by a
massive Coastal Acoustics Boxer t3 system. Says Harper, "The unparalleled
sonic authority of the Boxers can be compromised by an improper acoustic
space. The combination of the Boxers and this room, however, is shocking.
There is absolutely no guesswork to the sound in here, what you hear
is really what you get."
Susan Morrison, Vice President of Audio Services for Zomba is equally
pleased with the results. "We wanted technology that would take us
strongly into the new millennium. We are off to a tremendous start!"
Aesthetically, the new curved shapes of the DigiWave seamlessly
combine with the rest of the architecture to offer a wonderful new
look in studio design. "Battery Mastering is representative of all
that we strive for when building a studio, we're already turning out
the hits". |
