Harris - Grant Associates strives to continually integrate
new ideas, materials, aesthetics and acoustics into their
studio designs in an attempt to re-define visual appearance
and improve performance. The history of our projects bears
this out. Sony M1 offered the opportunity to create a softer
appearance by introducing the new shape optimized DigiWave,
a digital binary amplitude diffsorber developed by RPG®
Diffusor Systems, Inc. We worked closely with RPG® to
achieve an architecturally aesthetic shape profile for the
ceiling and side wall areas, while blending in the Diffractal®
rear wall. The performance and visual aesthetic has been stunning.

The application of DiviWave acoustical treatment was considered
from the outset of the design process for the rebuild of our
premier mastering room, M1. While much of the acoustical signature
of our facility is based on the existing body of RPG® acoustical
products, this new technique was something that heretofore had
never been attempted and as such constituted a bit of an experiment.
Suffice it to say that the decision to go through with an experiment
on this scale was based largely on our confidence in Messrs.
D'Antonio and Grant. The result has becomme one of the two best
sounding rooms in our facility. While user reaction is extremely
favorable, it is the positive reactions of other acousticians
that is most remarkable. I would not be at all surprised to
see this technique become more widely used.
